What is Siacoin?
Siacoin (SC) is the native token of the Sia decentralized cloud storage network. It powers the global storage marketplace, letting users pay hosts for encrypted, redundant storage and bandwidth with SC, while incentivizing hosts to provide reliable space across a distributed network. This creates a cheaper, censorship-resistant alternative to traditional cloud storage.
Why does Siacoin have inflation?
Siacoin has inflation because new coins are minted as block rewards to miners who secure the network and process storage contracts; the inflation rate varies with the block reward schedule and overall network hash rate.
How is Siacoin inflation calculated?
Siacoin inflation is calculated by comparing the circulating supply from one year ago to today’s supply. The percentage increase in supply over that period is the annual inflation rate. Learn more in our guide: What is cryptocurrency inflation?.
