What is Zcash?
Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that uses zero-knowledge proofs to shield transactions on its blockchain. It offers optional privacy with shielded addresses and transparent transactions, letting users choose their level of disclosure. Built on the Zerocash protocol and powered by zk-SNARKs, Zcash aims to deliver secure, private digital cash for everyday use.
Why does Zcash have inflation?
Zcash issues new coins through block rewards to secure the network and fund development; initially, 20% of rewards went to a Founders’ Reward for four years. After that period, miners receive the full block reward, so new coins continue to be minted and inflation persists.
How is Zcash inflation calculated?
Zcash inflation is calculated by comparing the circulating supply from one year ago to today’s supply. The percentage increase in supply over that period is the annual inflation rate. Learn more in our guide: What is cryptocurrency inflation?.
