What is Icon?
ICON is a decentralized blockchain network designed to connect independent blockchains and services, enabling seamless cross-chain data and value transfer. Built on the loopchain architecture, ICON uses the ICX token to power governance, smart contracts, and interoperability within the Nexus ecosystem, supporting scalable, enterprise-grade blockchain solutions.
Why does Icon have inflation?
ICON has inflation because new ICX are minted as block rewards to incentivize validators and ecosystem growth, and the supply is not capped, leading to a gradual increase in circulating ICX.
How is Icon inflation calculated?
Icon inflation is calculated by comparing the circulating supply from one year ago to today’s supply. The percentage increase in supply over that period is the annual inflation rate. Learn more in our guide: What is cryptocurrency inflation?.
How is Icon emission calculated?
Icon emission refers to how new coins enter circulation, usually through mining or staking rewards. The emission rate depends on the project’s monetary policy and block reward schedule. Learn more in our guide: What is cryptocurrency emission?.
